How this works in your browser
The browser decodes your JPG back into a plain grid of pixels, then those pixels are written into a TIFF container: a header, a directory of tags describing the image layout, and the uncompressed pixel data. The important thing to understand is what this does and does not achieve. It does not recover detail, because the information JPEG discarded at the moment of first saving no longer exists anywhere in the file. What it does is stop the bleeding, since every subsequent save in TIFF form is lossless. If a photo will pass through several editing rounds, converting once at the start prevents the generational quality loss that repeated JPEG saves cause.

Will converting to TIFF recover quality lost in the JPG?
No. TIFF stops further lossy compression, but it cannot restore detail already lost when the JPG was first saved.
Will the TIFF file be much larger?
Yes, typically significantly larger, since this tool produces an uncompressed TIFF file.
Is my file uploaded anywhere?
No, the conversion happens entirely in your browser.
Then why convert a JPG to TIFF at all?
Because it stops the loss from continuing. Every time a JPG is opened, edited and saved it is re-compressed and degrades a little further. Moving to TIFF freezes the image where it is, so a long retouching session or a multi-step print workflow does not quietly erode it further.
Is the output CMYK?
No, it is RGB. Print vendors normally convert to CMYK during prepress using the profile matched to their press and paper, which gives better colour than a generic conversion done here.
How large will the file get?
Expect roughly three bytes per pixel, since the output is uncompressed. A 12 megapixel photo lands somewhere around 36MB, which is expected rather than a problem.
Which TIFF variant does this produce?
A baseline uncompressed RGB TIFF, the most widely readable form, so it opens cleanly in Photoshop, Preview, GIMP and older prepress tools.
