How this works in your browser
The tool assembles your details into the standard Wi-Fi credential string, a defined format naming the security type, network name, password and hidden flag, and encodes that text into a QR code in your browser. Phone camera apps recognise the format and offer to join rather than treating it as a link. The important property to understand is that this is encoding, not encryption: the password sits in the pattern as readable text, which is what allows any device to join without a shared secret and equally what makes a photograph of the code equivalent to a photograph of the password. Nothing is transmitted during generation, so your credentials never leave your device.

Anyone who photographs the sign can extract the password. Is that a problem?
It is worth understanding rather than glossing over. The password is embedded in the pattern in plain text, so a photograph of the code is functionally a photograph of the password. In a home or a café that is fine, since anyone standing there could read a written password too. Where it matters is a code left visible in a window or posted online, which is genuinely equivalent to publishing the password.
Should I put my main network on a printed code?
Better to use a guest network. Most routers can run one, it keeps visitors off the same network as your computers, printer and smart devices, and its password can be changed at any time without re-configuring everything you own.
Will it work on both iPhone and Android?
Yes. Both have supported Wi-Fi codes natively in the camera app for years, so scanning prompts to join with no app needed. A few older devices may need a QR scanning app instead.
Why does the code not work with my password?
Usually a mismatch in the details rather than the code itself. Check the network name for exact capitalisation and spacing, and confirm the security type, since selecting WPA when the network is actually open, or the reverse, produces a code that fails silently.
